Gas logs are an inexpensive way to convert a wood burning fireplace into an easy to use, and clean burning showpiece. Gas logs cost about a dollar per hour to operate and can be set up to be operated by remote control. Unlike a wood fire, gas turns on and off in an instant. It is recommended that a nice set of glass doors be installed with a gas log set to reduce heat loss up the flue when the log set is not in use, as the damper is pinned open as required by code.
